Hi Katie, thanks for the post. Do you think most clients find illustrator’s websites through social media, or through a search engine?

I think it's irrelevant! We are cross-checked wherever they stumble upon us. If they find us on Instagram, they will check our website to see how professional we are, and if they find our website first, then they will verify on Ig if we are still active and how much.

Some great advice. I did hear (a few years ago) that the average illustrator's salary was £15k, so don't give up the day job too quickly and get a good accountant.

Having a job in retail or industry before illustration does harden you up. Yuko Shimizu, the illustrator not the designer, talks about her 10 years in Corporate Japan before moving to NYC to be an illustrator. I did Fine Art Printmaking, but when into commercial print and have been lucky to work with galleries and artists.

I promise to get my website up and running this year. It has taken a good few years to get over my shyness and promote myself. One of my MDs' said you only need a business card to see the company, but make sure you get a prestigious one and always carry some with you.

Ready to update the website (again)

And I was wondering Katie, there’s a ‘I’ve joined the picture book course’ but I can’t remember getting one doing the live illo course.. can I have one? A wee little badge or something?
