When I first got a new logo last year, the first thing my annoyingly-often-right husband, Cameron, said to me was:
“Hmm. Looks a bit like it says Olive.”
My reply: “Shhhh, shh, no, it doesn’t. Go away.”
Fast forward to April 2025.
I sat outside the studio to sip my iced coffee and a familiar voice called out,
“Katie, have you changed your name?”
Receptionist-Nicola popped her head around the corner.
“Is it something about olives now? Only I walked past your door and noticed it.”
👀
Hmm. Weird. I shrugged it off.
But then on Friday we (The Good Ship Illustration) opened the doors to the shiny new Live Illustration course…
My DMs and notifications:
“hi Katie, just so you know… it looks like it says olive illustration.”
”Hahaha I read OLIVE Illustration. Lol”
”hate to be that person but, it reads like olive because of that circle. Just wanted to let you know.”
This is to be expected. There have been a lot more eyeballs than usual on the Olive logo since last week. We had over 1000 people sign up for the masterclass(!) I was Very Very Nervous but it was fine. I had ma pals Helen and Tania cheering me on and everyone was kind.
Anyway, Cameron is doing a happy dance now. He was right all along. Don’t laugh. STOP ENCOURAGING HIM.
STOP IT!
Just to clarify,
THERE WILL BE NO OLIVES.
And maybe I need to look at my logo and this whole design when there’s less on my plate 🫠…
But the doors *are* open regardless, and it’d be lovely to see you in there if you fancy learning how to do live illustration.

I see ‘live’ but on Friday at launch time Gerry brought a bottle of ‘Olivio’ out of the cupboard and asked if the new course was about this brand of olive oil. I told him not to be so annoying 🙄
Katie ,your substack andd writing and point of view about life and drawing and live illustration and olives from Aldi are so much fun. Love it. Please, keep writing , drawing and make your family have happy dances and your readers laugh out loud in their homes ,inmidst the daily hustle of life.
