Hi Katie, I am a newly solo live illustrator based in NZ. Sadly, there is not much awareness here for graphic recording (which I am working on improving!) but I am considering a move to London in the near future, and understand there is more live illustration work there. Before subscribing, I am curious -
Do you think any of the jobs you post would consider hiring a remote live illustrator? It's opposite timezones, but damn it I'd be willing to work at 1am if it's a possibility to do remote live captures from NZ. What do you think?
there’s recently been an Aussie job posted on the board and they indicated that they’d be open to remote scribing, so yes! Although of course i can never predict what jobs are coming in future (which is why i’ve kept the subscription so low) :) hope that helps! And good luck!
Thanks for all the information that you give out, it's very exciting! I am lost in the world of I-pads and which is the one I should choose? What do you and/or others recommend? Thanks again!
Helloo lovely to see you here! I use an iPad Pro 12.9" that I bought in 2021 and is still goin' strong 💪 - before that I had a 2nd hand 2016 model and I don't remember whether it was a pro or not. Honestly, any iPad is good haha. I hope that helps and merry iPad shopping!
Hi Katie, can I ask about the spreadsheet that you send to the clients. Is there usually a cut off point when you stop collating enquiries from illustrators and send the info to the client - say a month before the job? Or can the employer see the spreadsheet in real time?
Nope, no cut off. If someone reaches out to me (illustrator or client) to say that they’ve got the job, then I add a note to the title to say CLOSED. But the cilent can see the spreadsheet update in real-time :) Hope that helps! xx
Hi Katie, Thank you so much for your article on pricing - it was ace!!
I was just hoping to ask whether you do all your illustrations on Procreate or whether you ever get any requests to work in vectors? Is there a size of canvas that you would recommend working with on Procreate to get a good balance between space and resolution?
Hi Katie, sorry I lost your comment but HOORAY I FOUND IT AGAIN! 😅
I mostly work on Procreate. I've worked on Adobe Fresco in the past too for clients who wanted vector graphics. In terms of canvas size, I go with 3000 ish pixels by whatever makes the canvas the right dimensions to be 16:9 (widescreen movie size). Hope that help! :)
